DIFFICULT ROADS OFTEN LEAD TO BEAUTIFUL DESTINATIONS
Life is too short for complacency and no matter where you are in your journey, you always have a choice. You can settle with what you have. Or you can take massive action and create the life you want.
Hi, my name is Danny Heinsohn and my biggest setback became my greatest opportunity. This was my path to success…
Upon college graduation with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering, I was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 23. After 15 months of craniotomies, seizure complications, and chemotherapy, I spiraled into depression and lost my sense of identity. I had to relearn how to do everything – tie my shoes, type on the keyboard, write with my hands, play the guitar and piano, and went through several rounds of speech and memory therapy.
By the time I got back into “real life” I was broke with a mound of student debt, socially marooned, and there were no job opportunities after the dot-com bubble burst in 2000. My bachelor degree in electrical engineering became obsolete. While the rest of the world moved on, I was left in the wake of cancer and chemotherapy. I had to start over.
My friends and family became my heroes during the most uncertain of times and my reason for fighting was because of them. No matter how difficult things became, giving up simply wasn’t an option.
On the road to recovery I signed up to participate in an indoor cycling class choreographed to music. The instructor was amazing and I loved the energy and sense of camaraderie. It was at that time when I decided to become a certified spinning instructor.
RESILIENCE HAPPENS when we create opportunities through our passions.
Along with this newfound passion came a new lifestyle. I had been active in team sports throughout my entire life but the parallels between cancer and chemotherapy with endurance sports became my new calling card.
Following this path led to an encounter with owner of a start up company whose passions aligned with mine. I was hired the next day and that’s when my career in sales began.
Eventually, I would go on to create two divisions of the company in the professional sports and corporate sponsorship industries.
I cracked the sales code in those markets and enjoyed several sustaining partnerships with the biggest names in the business. Some clients include the legendary New York Yankees, Super Bowl Champions Baltimore Ravens, Stanley Cup Champions Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins, NASCAR, esurance, GoPro, Nike, Samsung, Red Bull and over 70 NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 properties, to name a few. I learned to thrive in all aspects of my life.
RESILIENCE HAPPENS when we activate our communities.
In 2010, I decided to celebrate my 10th year of remission from brain cancer by starting my own foundation and compete in my first Ironman Triathlon – 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile marathon (all to be completed in 17 hours or less).
My Hometown Heroes was created to celebrate the community who supported me with compassion along my journey through brain cancer. My friends, family, and medical team were my heroes. Since 2011, My Hometown Heroes has awarded 57 scholarships to college bound cancer survivors from across the country between the amounts of $1000 and $5000 each.
Since I published my book in 2014, For A Reason, I have received national honors and been invited to speak at TEDxReno, Baltimore Ravens Partner Summit, National Sports Forum, SportsTravel Awards, American Family Insurance, American Society of Civil Engineers, NAIFA and PRSA to name a few. The winner of the 2014 Boston Marathon, Meb Keflezhghi went out of his way to introduce himself after I received the SportsTravel Humanitarian Award.
Achieving your wildest dreams demands grit. You have to think big, plan intelligently, and take massive action to achieve your goals. I am passionate about helping people and businesses activate their greatness through ironclad preparation, building a sustainable network, results-driven accountability, and creating outstanding experiences.
I do this through speaking at industry events, rapping (yes, rapping), sales training, 1-on-1 business coaching, mutual accountability, keynotes, workshops, luncheons and blogging. By the Fall of 2018 I plan to launch the Resilience Happens podcast where Stories Become Brands, Setbacks Become Opportunities, and Passions turn to Business. I’m currently baking interviews.
To win in the game of sales we must learn to listen, align, create value, provide clarity, differentiate and deliver on our brand promise. We must become the brand people want to invest in. To bring abundance into our lives, we must become crystal clear with who we are, what we want, and understand the value of our gifts to the world.
I’d love to explore an opportunity to collaborate with you or your team. Please don’t hesitate to reach out any time via e-mail, Linkedin, Twitter, or Instagram. I look forward to connecting and helping advance the best version of you.
